10 Ways to Declutter your Mind | Meditative Mind

“Mind is not a dustbin to keep anger, hatred and jealousy; but is a treasure box to keep love, happiness and sweet memories” – Buddha

We are keeping the negative thoughts of worries, anxieties and fears, and continue storing ill will, hatred and jealousy for our nears and dears, friends and colleagues. One should de-clutter such negative thoughts regularly  and learn to let go. Check your mind, watch your thoughts. Most people worry about the future but worry is a total waste of time.  All it does is steal your joy and keep you very busy doing nothing.   Will your mind listen to you or you are controlled by the mind.

If someone says something to you which is not so good or insults you in front of many people, how many days are required to forget ? We proudly say I will never forget this. I will keep it rest of my life.  That creates trouble, pain, hatred and anger. You cannot keep love and hatred, negative and positive thoughts together in the mind.

How to De-clutter Mind

1. De-clutter your Physical Environment

When there is a physical clutter it disturbs the mind and keeps it occupied. De-cluttering home as well as office will calm your mind and free from outside disturbance.

2. Stop and check your thoughts

Best way to de-clutter mind is to stop and check your thoughts. Take a break for two minutes after every two hours check your thoughts. Lesser the traffic of thoughts in your mind, easier is the journey of life.

3. Let go of the past and forgive

Generally, we keep our mind filled with past grievances, grudges, frustration, opportunities missed, people who have hurt and the mistakes done by someone. Take time to let go all these unpleasant memories of the past which are not serving any purpose but on the other hand disturbing the present life. “To forgive is the highest, most beautiful form of love. In return, you will receive untold peace and happiness.” – Robert Muller.  This way you can keep your mind clutter free.

4. Be Decisive

If you postpone making decisions, your mind will soon be flooded with all of the decisions that you need to make. To de-clutter the mind take decisions immediately after thinking.

5. Mindful Meditation

Mindful meditation is the best practice if we want to remain in peace and joyful. Every act during the day whether it is eating, showering, walking, playing, working , loving , is all  living in present.  When mind and body are together, you are truly in the present moment.  Mindfulness is now being examined scientifically and has been found to be a key element to keep our mind clutter free and happy.

6. Practice Gratitude

Research shows that expressing  gratitude to someone is one of the most effective ways to clear out mental clutter.

7. Prioritize work

If you have an endless list to do tasks, your mind and brain will definitely create clutter.  Make a list of your top priorities, choose one at a time which is most important to you and concentrate on a single task.  Focus on next after doing the first task.

8. Release guilt and fears

Guilt is cancer, it destroys you and tortures you.  In the words of Emily Giffin “Guilt is a supreme waste of time and energy.” In short we can say that guilt is anger directed at ourselves.  Remember your dreams and fight for them; there should not be any element of fear of failure.  Nepoleon Hill rightly said that “Fears are nothing more than a state of mind.  Best way to de-clutter your mind is to release guilt and fears from your life.

9. Replace Negative thoughts with Positive thoughts

Negative thoughts are just like internal gossip which only occupies the mind and drags our energy level low. Don’t imprison your mind with negative thoughts ; instead replace negative thoughts with positive ones. To have positive results, de-clutter and train your mind to see something good in everything.

10. Accept that which you cannot change

For peace of mind, accept the things you can’t change, change the things you can’t accept.  When you start accepting the things you cannot change, you will be happier.  The more you are able to change the things which you refuse to accept,  the stronger you will become.

If you decide to live happily, and want to become the master of your mind, start choosing out thoughts like you choose your clothes for the day from today itself and keep the mind clutter free.
