The third chakra – Solar Plexus Chakra is responsible for maintaining the life force in you. If you have gone through our previous posts on the root chakra and sacral chakra, then you know that they are associated with generating life in us. The fulfillment of basic needs, being intimate with life and being creative are some of their characteristics. 

The Solar Plexus chakra or Manipura (Sanskrit) on the other hand drives your life forward. It is located six inches above the navel – in your diaphragm. So, it is also associated with digestion and the maintenance of the digestive tracts. 

You have to remember that the chakras are always there but they need to be focused upon to reveal the benefits and its representation for you.

The “gut instinct” that you often feel arises from this chakra. So go ahead to know everything about your third chakra to take better decisions in life and strengthen your willpower.

What is Manipura?

Manipura meaning ‘lustrous gem’ is the most radiant of all the chakras. If you have felt a strong inner drive, confidence in the things you are doing, then this chakra was in a healthy state. But sometimes you can also feel down and lose meaning in your lives. The Solar Plexus chakra could be blocked and it requires healing.  

The message of the Solar Plexus Chakra is: “You have the power to choose.”

The element of this chakra is fire. It is linked to the sun, the energy of light and heat. 

It is the energy that strengthens our self-concept. Who are you, the existential you? The question can be answered by focusing on this chakra. And that gives you an understanding of yourselves and hence the energy to do what you want in life.

This chakra gives you the power to take charge of yourself and the situation that you are in when the need arises. Like already mentioned, it gives you the drive to go through the ups and downs of life. 

The Solar Plexus Chakra also helps in defining your personality. And also your will to go through with work without any distractions and find the balance for your inner power.

The Symptoms of an Imbalanced Solar Plexus Chakra

There can be several reasons for an imbalanced Solar Plexus Chakra and it involves both physical and emotional symptoms. People with imbalanced Solar Plexus Chakra let life pass by without doing anything. They victimize themselves. Not realizing what to do in life leaves you with no purpose and life starts to wither just like a plant without sunlight.

The Physical Symptoms to pay attention to:
  • Bloating
  • Digestive cramps
  • Nausea
  • Difficulties with short-term memory
  • Constantly feeling fatigued and lazy
  • Your body temperature is normally very cold or very hot
  • You have developed a pot belly 
The Emotional Symptoms to pay attention to:
  • Lack of purpose or direction
  • You lean towards seeking approval from other people
  • Dreams that lack associated plans
  • You have developed addictive tendencies
  • There is a lack of self-confidence in most areas of life

There are two forms of imbalanced chakra, where too much energy flows in or too little. You have to find the ‘sweet spot’ for activating your chakras.

People who are emotional, less confident and nervous in general about what people think of them, suffer from an Under-Active solar plexus chakra.

The reason is that not enough energy is flowing in and the person has poor will power.

On the contrary, some people are bullies, very aggressive towards others, they are constantly judging and are often angry. In this case, too much energy is flowing in and the person has an Overactive Solar Plexus Chakra.

The Need for a Balanced Solar Plexus Chakra

If you are at a place where currently you do not know what is blocking your chakra, it is better to first start healing yourself. With time you will know what has caused the blockage of the chakras. So, that is the first reason you need to heal the chakra to further know the causes of an imbalanced chakra.

But in addition to that, a balanced chakra will lead to slowly removing the symptoms for the blocked chakra. You will start to see life more clearly and make better judgments. You will know what to do and no more feel self-doubt about your actions. 

Having the ability to know what to do and then doing it without any distractions can be a great boon. That can be harnessed in all of us through balancing the solar plexus chakra. And this ability also helps us be a better leader.

8 Ways to Heal the Solar Plexus Chakra

Something that you have to know is that the changes take time, your body and mind takes time to adjust and fully realize the effects of the mentioned techniques.

There are some methods you could adopt to heal the chakra like the ones mentioned below. Do give a try to all, to settle on the ones which work best for you.

1. Meditation Techniques

Since this chakra is related to self-empowerment, the approach of doing the act of empowering yourself matters. Embodying the part of acting sharp, speaking up and standing tall can be a good start. 

Other things that you can do is ‘stop’ victimizing yourself, it can be very tempting to forego the self-responsibility. But in the long run, it makes you weak and you fall in this circle of not doing anything at any given time. 

Visualize a yellow ball in the upper part of the abdomen. Also, feel that the yellow glow is growing and flowing through your whole body. Do this for around 10 minutes daily.

Also, try these:

  • Practice self-love (address your pain and reason for suffering and love yourself)

2. Mantras and Chants

The seed mantra for the solar plexus chakra is RAM which is a single syllable word pronounced as “raaaaaammmmmmmmm.” This sound matches the vibrations of the Solar plexus chakra and helps in activating the chakra. Also, chant along with the vibrations, this greatly helps. Feel the sound coming from your throat and not your mouth.

For practicing the chanting of the seed mantra, pronounce the mantra along with the chant in the video below. Synchronize your breath with the chanting and focus on the vibrations created by the mantra chanting.

3. Sleep Meditation Music 

In addition to meditating via Solar Plexus Chakra chanting, you can also heal the chakra by listening to sleep meditation music that we have prepared.

To effectively use the music, we recommend to play the music on speakers at a low volume (almost to a whisper) while sleeping. We also recommend not consuming any heavy meal before sleeping as it will disturb the sleep pattern. 

Focus on your breath and visualize an orange sphere​ three inches below the navel while sleeping. As you inhale the sphere expands and as you exhale it spreads this energy throughout your body and you slowly drift into sleep. The screen will automatically turn black in a few minutes.

4. Affirmations

The Affirmations work to realign the Solar Plexus chakra. Repeating them multiple times a day or whenever you sense that the chakras are not balanced, can be very useful. These are some:

  1. I love and accept myself fully
  2. I am confident in all what I do
  3. I can achieve anything I desire
  4. I stand up for myself, I believe in myself
  5. I accept responsibility of all my decision
  6. I act with courage and strength
  7. I am in touch with my inner fire

5. Asanas and Other Physical Techniques

Yoga is very important to balance the solar plexus chakra. Wear something comfortable and get started with yoga for empowering yourself.

The above video specifically guides you through each yoga pose. Practice the yoga along with the video and follow through carefully to get the poses right. There are other physical exercises that you can do like free dancing, kickboxing, crying, writing. But remember to have fun to release the stored anger from your body.

6. Gems, Jewelry and Color

Stones such as Amber, Citrine, Yellow Tourmaline, Pyrite can help with getting mental clarity, removing negativity and self-empowerment. Use these to overcome not being able to make clear decisions.

You can keep them near the chakra or even better wear them in the form of jewelry.


The color for the Solar Plexus chakra is yellow. This color signifies self-empowerment and confidence. Wearing yellow-colored clothes can enhance the opening of the solar plexus chakra, as the frequency after the brain processes this color matches that of the solar plexus chakra. 

7. Food and Diet

Some specific foods related to the Solar Plexus Chakra are:

  • Eating yellow foods like bananas, lemons, corn, yellow capsicums, and pineapple.
  • Eating whole grains like rice, oats, and rye.
  • Consume spices such as ginger, cumin, turmeric, and cinnamon.
8. Manipura Mudra

Mudras are a way to attune ourselves with specific vibrations in the universe. In order to balance your solar plexus chakra, mudras are very beneficial. You can practice the mudra for 2 -3 minutes daily in the mornings and evenings.

For this mudra, interlace your fingers in front of the solar plexus. Extend the middle fingers and press them together. This mudra is also known as Gesture of the Goddess of Transformation.
