Located just a couple of inches below the navel is the second chakra – the sacral chakra. The Sanskrit name ‘Svadhishthana’ meaning “one’s own place” refers to the real you, your unique characteristics and aspects of you.

The sacral chakra represents playfulness, enjoyment, intimacy, humor, and creativity. Now if you lack a passion for life, find yourself less inspired, or lack sexual drive, it means that the sacral chakra requires healing.

From a very early age, many of us have again and again suppressed our emotions and desires. Whether in social conditions or even because of family members. All of the energy-related to this is stuck in the 2nd chakra and during healing the repressed emotions resurface.

Below you will find a guide to successfully open the sacral chakra and discover your creative self.

What is Svadhishthana?

Svadhishthana or the sacral chakra is the center of joy. It is the reason you enjoy life fully. The emotions of intimacy and sensuality feel natural and healthy through this chakra’s energy. And hence you experience a general sense of joy.

“The best of Inspiration comes when you are not looking for it.”

When the sacral chakra’s energy regulates our pleasure and passion, the other aspects of life become joyous too. You worry less and have the energy to get inspired and get creative. It happens without working towards it.

The sacral chakra is also associated with a sense of taste. So you taste life when you are intimate with it, you feel life for what it is and experience abundance joy.

Svadhishthana also associates itself with the element ‘water’ and the organs dealing with water regulation. Water represents the flow of life and the chakra’s energy revitalizes this flow in us like in all living things.

This chakra needs to be activated if you want to feel excited about life again and if you want to let go of that boredom. Also, If you want to get creative and not feel that everything is a burden. Most people with the sacral chakra blocked take up ‘meditation’ as a task that has to be completed.

These are a few significant characteristics which the sacral chakra influences or is influenced by:
  • Confidence in your creation
  • Being playful with others
  • Your feeling of inspiration
  • Your satisfaction in romantic relationships
  • The amount of pleasure you feel overall

He hides beneath a layer and the energy of the Svadhishthana does not flow well in his body.

Similarly, some are easily agitated and are very aggressive towards others and themselves, they are reactive people. In this case, too much energy is flowing in and the person has an Overactive sacral chakra.

The Need for a Balanced Sacral Chakra

When the sacral chakra is balanced, all of the above symptoms start to dissipate, you start letting go and connect with this world. You connect with this world in the form of utter joy you start to experience in your day to day life.

By experience, many of us have high expectations of this reality, we keep wanting for better and higher experiences. The catch is that we never feel ‘totality’ and we are left wanting for more.

From many pleasures, you need to reach just ‘one’ pleasure and that pleasure is the joy of just being.

The balanced sacral chakra helps you to achieve that state where you experience oneness in pleasure and creativity.

8 Ways to Heal the Sacral Chakra

The first step towards healing the sacral chakra can be to realize your place in the world. You have to stop confusing pain and enjoyment. You have to first realize that pain and joy are different things and they should not be mixed up. Otherwise, you will be confused and that confusion will lead to depression and anxiety.

Not able to understand your feelings can drain your chakra energy. Realize that passion and inspiration can be found in simpler things too. This ensures that you are open to healing the sacral chakra.

There are several methods you could adopt to heal the chakra like the ones mentioned below. Do give a try to all, to settle on the ones which work best for you.

1. Meditation Techniques

We have a guided Sacral Chakra Meditation Video for anyone who is getting into meditation or wants a good flow of undisturbed meditation. We have found that this method works great for beginners.

Visualize an orange ball three inches below the navel while in a seated position. Also, feel that the orange glow is filling your whole body in the form of ripples (similar to the ripples in the water) created from the orange ball.

Apart from this, you can also practice laughter meditation to bring out your inner smile and just feel that joy seeping in your life.

2. Mantras and Chants

The seed mantra for the sacral chakra is VAM which is a single syllable word pronounced as “vaaaaaammmmmmmmm.” This sound matches the vibrations of the sacral chakra and helps in activating the chakra. This mantra helps you to release sexual tension, embrace change and express yourself.

For practicing the chanting of the seed mantra, pronounce the mantra along with the chant in the video below. Synchronize your breath with the chanting and focus on the vibrations created by the mantra chanting.

3. Sleep Meditation Music

In addition to meditating via sacral chakra chanting, you can also heal the chakra by listening to sleep meditation music that we have prepared.

To effectively use the music, we recommend to play the music on speakers at a low volume (almost to a whisper) while sleeping. We also recommend not consuming any heavy meal before sleeping as it will disturb the sleep pattern.

Focus on your breath and visualize an orange sphere three inches below the navel while sleeping. As you inhale the sphere expands and as you exhale it spreads this energy throughout your body and you slowly drift into sleep. The screen will automatically turn black in a few minutes.

4. Affirmations

The Affirmations work to realign the sacral chakra. Repeating them multiple times a day or whenever you sense that the chakras are not balanced, can be very useful. These are some:

  • I see myself as Water, Flowing with Ease
  • I am radiant, I am passionate.
  • Pleasure is a sacred part of my life
  • I love and respect myself and my body
  • I am full of joy and creativity
  • I receive pleasure and abundance with every breath

We have made a guided affirmation video for the above sacral chakra affirmations. You can view it below.

5. Asanas and Other Physical Techniques

Yoga is very important to balance the sacral chakra. Wear something comfortable and get started with yoga for increasing creativity.

The above video specifically guides you through each yoga pose. Practice the yoga along with the video and follow through carefully to get the poses right. There are other physical exercises that you can do like free dancing. You can also discover your sexual side by having fun to release the stored tension from your body.

6. Gems, Jewelry and Color

Gems and jewelry

By wearing stones and jewelry made of Orange Calcite, Moonstone, Carnelian, and other crystals such as Citrine, you can unblock the chakra.

It is best to keep the stone over the chakra while meditating or wear it.

The color for the sacral chakra is orange. This color signifies creativity and feelings. Wearing orange-colored clothes can enhance the opening of the sacral chakra, as the frequency of this color matches that of the sacral chakra.

7. Food and Diet

The nutrients that we intake can benefit our body or can harm us too. All organic food is beneficent and if you can eat some specific foods related to the sacral chakra, it will be much better.

  • Eating orange fruits like oranges, mangoes, papayas, and peaches.
  • Eating seeds like pumpkin, sunflower, poppy, and hemp.
  • Clear liquids and fruit tea can also help in healing.
8. Svadhishthana Mudra

Mudras are a way to attune ourselves with specific vibrations in the universe. In order to balance your sacral chakra, mudras are very beneficial. You can practice the mudra for 2 -3 minutes daily in the mornings and evenings.

Varun mudra:
