How to Meditate with the “Ek Ong Kar” Mantra

Meditating with the “Ek Ong Kar” mantra involves bringing mindful awareness to the chant, allowing its sacred vibrations to permeate your being. Here’s a simple guide to get started:

Step 1: Create a Sacred Space

Find a quiet place where you can sit comfortably without distractions. Light a candle or incense if you wish, to create a peaceful ambiance.

Step 2: Set an Intention

Take a few moments to set a clear intention for your meditation. This could be to connect with the divine, to find inner peace, or to cultivate a sense of unity with the universe.

Step 3: Begin with Deep Breathing

Close your eyes and take several deep breaths. Inhale deeply through your nose, filling your lungs completely, and then exhale slowly. This helps to center your mind and prepare you for the meditation.

Step 4: Chant the Mantra

Start chanting “Ek Ong Kar” either aloud or silently in your mind. Feel the vibrations of each syllable resonating through your body. You can chant along with a recording or use a mala to keep track of your repetitions.

Step 5: Focus on the Sound

As you chant, focus on the sound and meaning of the mantra. Let each repetition draw you deeper into a state of calm and awareness. If your mind starts to wander, gently bring your focus back to the mantra.

Step 6: End with Silence

After chanting for a set period (start with 5-10 minutes and gradually increase), sit in silence for a few moments. Notice the stillness and peace within you. Allow the energy of the mantra to integrate into your being.

Step 7: Reflect and Close

Gently open your eyes and take a few moments to reflect on your experience. Offer gratitude for the practice and the insights gained. Carry the sense of peace and unity with you into your daily life.

Let the sacred vibrations of this mantra transform your life and bring you closer to the divine unity within and around you.

“Ek Ong Kar” or “Ik Onkar” or “Ek Onkar”

This difference mainly emerges from the conversion of Gurmukhi (the script in which we write punjabi) to english. In Gurmukhi, there is only one way to write Ik Onkar or Ek Ong Kar and that is ੴ . And then you add dialects and how it is written in roman letter. In essence they both are same, but when meditating, as a personal experience, if we pronounce as Ek Ong Kar … that allows for better, deeper experience.
