This chant is a part of Anand Sahib written by Guru Amar Das Ji and chanted at all ceremonies of Sikhs irrespective of the nature of event, whether it is a marriage or death.
As per ‘ Sikh Encyclopedia’ Anand means to rejoice. It denotes mystical experience, spiritual bliss or a state of consciousness . In simple words, the meaning of Anand is bliss, eternal peace, real contentment, jubilation, true joy, complete happiness, paradise, ecstasy, euphoria etc. It is said that the person who chants this Mantra in the morning with meditation, dedication, comprehension and full attention will achieve bliss and peace of mind throughout the day and does not diminish in adversity and it is perpetual in all the ups and downs of life. The Anand is different from worldly pleasures or joy. It is also not dependent on worldly things.
