Crown Chakra – A Detailed Guide for Healing the Seventh Chakra

The crown chakra is the highest in our chakra system. It is located at the top of your head and connects us to that infinite universal energy.

The chakra system is best balanced if it is successively approached. And that works by activating and balancing the other six chakras first. Just like the root chakra is the connection to the earth, the crown chakra connects us to the universe. It is this universal energy that enlightens us with cosmic consciousness and egolessness. Before you jump into making sense of this guide, we would recommend first reading the other posts on the rest of the chakras , that will give you a deeper understanding of how to gradually advance from the first to the last chakra.

What is Crown Chakra – Sahasrara?

Sahasrara, the Sanskrit for crown chakra means ‘thousand petals.’ This chakra makes us experience unity and makes us realize that everything is connected at a fundamental level. It is the point at which the body (ego) and the mind (soul) meet. You experience true gratitude for one’s life. You leave behind fear and anxiety and embrace life with faith and trust. The element of this chakra is the ‘cosmos.’ The light and liberation that you receive is from the universe. There is an immense feeling of satisfaction which comes from the self. This itself dissolves all ego and your searching for external stimuli stops.

These are a few characteristics which the crown chakra influences or is influenced by:

  • Realization, liberation from limiting patterns
  • Your excitement levels
  • Communion with higher states of consciousness
  • Connection to wisdom, insight
  • Your ability to find peace
  • Motivation to reach goals

The Symptoms of an Imbalanced Crown Chakra

The crown chakra is blocked due to stressful life environments, experiencing past life traumas, and fast-paced lifestyles. But the main reason is ego, we all have some type of ego that is hard to let go of. That is one of the reasons that this chakra needs to be balanced last after forming stability in the other chakras. Apart from these deep-rooted reasons, there are both physical and emotional symptoms for an imbalanced crown chakra.

Physical Symptoms of an imbalance in crown chakra:

  • Exhaustion
  • Chronic tension headaches
  • Poor coordination
  • Mental illnesses that involve delusions
  • Neurological and endocrine disorders
  • Insomnia

Emotional Symptoms of an imbalance in crown chakra:

  • Loneliness
  • Apathy
  • Boredom with life
  • Narrow-mindedness/dogmatism
  • Mental fog/confusion
  • Desire to oversleep
  • Rigid and limiting self-identity

To add to this, there are two forms of imbalanced chakras, where too much energy flows in or too little. You have to find the ‘balance’ for activating your chakras. People who tend to be rigid, spiritually unaware and selfish suffer from an Under-Active crown chakra. The reason is that not enough energy is flowing in. On the contrary, some people are obsessive with their thoughts. They think too much about the past and future. In this case, too much energy is flowing in and the person has an Overactive crown chakra.

Symptoms of a Balanced Crown Chakra

When this chakra is balanced, your ego dissolves and you experience a state of pure bliss. You become naturally inclined to seek knowledge to liberate yourselves, you instinctively want to meditate and seek silence. Meditation would come easily, it would no longer be a task. You would want to be in a  meditative state for a longer amount of time. The normal consciousness will no longer be something you would want to be in. You will devote time and energy to discover more about the spiritual questions you have. As long as you are attached to this world and its materials, you will not have enough energy to open the crown chakra. This attachment arises from the imbalanced lower three chakras, once they are balanced, the energy will start flowing and help in balancing your crown chakra.

7 Ways to Heal the Crown Chakra

Before healing, you have to realize that all beings in this universe are connected. All of us are connected. We have allowed ourselves to get lost and create a separate self which leads to all our problems. These problems and distress arise from worldly attachments and a sense of our separate self  – your ego. This ‘ego’ is very hard to let go of and that is why you need practice. We need that state of healing to reach the deep realization of a connected existence. You have to be patient with these techniques and methods. Below are some methods you could adopt to heal the chakra but do give a try to all, to settle on the ones which work best for you.

 1. Meditation

Meditation is bringing the mind to stillness and calmness and is very unique to all individuals. It is better if you sit in a comfortable position, wear comfortable clothes and most importantly find a place where you will not get disturbed. Now visualize a lotus at the top of the head. Now feel that this lotus is unfurling and from it, violet light is emerging and spreading through your whole body. Direct this energy to clear all blockages of energy in your body. It’s good that you practice for 3-5 minutes and get into a flow. With practice, you will get better at it.

If you are a beginner, you can start with our guided meditation on Crown Chakra. below.

2. Seed Mantra Chanting Meditation

The seed mantra for the crown chakra is AH which is a single syllable word pronounced as “aahhhhhhhhhhhh.” OM can also be used as a mantra for this chakra. This sound matches the vibrations of the crown chakra and helps in activating the chakra. For practicing the chanting of the seed mantra, pronounce the mantra along with the chant in the video below. Synchronize your breath with the chanting and focus on the vibrations created by the mantra chanting.

3. Sleep & Heal Crown Chakra

In addition to meditating via Crown Chakra chanting, you can also heal the chakra by listening to sleep meditation music that we have prepared. To effectively use the music, we recommend to play the music on speakers at a low volume (almost to a whisper) while sleeping. We also recommend not consuming any heavy meal before sleeping as it will disturb the sleep pattern. Focus on your breath and visualize an orange sphere three inches below the navel while sleeping. As you inhale the sphere expands and as you exhale it spreads this energy throughout your body and you slowly drift into sleep. The screen will automatically turn black in a few minutes.

4. Use Affirmations to Unblock Crown Chakra

The Affirmations work to realign the Crown Chakra. Repeating them multiple times a day or whenever you sense that the chakras are not balanced, can be very useful. These are some:

  • I am fully Awake in every Moment
  • I am connected to my higher self
  • I am part of Divine
  • I am in touch with the Divine within me.
  • I let go of all the attachments
  • I am pure love. I am pure light. I am pure Consciousness.

5. Color Therapy & Stones for Healing Crown Chakra

Gems and Jewellery Recommendations

Stones such as Clear Quartz, Selenite, Danburite and Shungite can help with getting clarity in life and avoiding negativity. Use these to propel yourself forward and past inactivity. You can keep them near the chakra while meditating or even better, wear them in the form of jewellery.

Color Therapy Recommendations

The color for the crown chakra is violet (more of a bluish-purple). This color signifies spiritual enlightenment and liberation. Wearing violet-colored clothes can enhance the opening of the crown chakra, as the frequency after the brain processes this color matches that of the crown chakra.

6. Food and Diet

Some specific foods related to the crown chakra are:

  • Eating violet foods like eggplant, passion fruit, and red grapes.
  • Also consuming Omega 3 products like salmon, chia seeds, walnuts, and sardines.
  • Spices like ginger.

7. Mudra for Balancing Crown Chakra

Mudras are a way to attune ourselves with specific vibrations in the universe. In order to balance your Crown chakra, Hakini Mudra is very beneficial. Put your hands above the crown chakra.
