Situated in the center of the brow lies the 3rd eye chakra, the sixth chakra is associated with manifestation, thought, perception and reality. It lets you tap into your inner guidance, to make better decisions using both intuition and logic. 

How often have you faced problems which have left you drained mentally? You may have been in situations which caused you mental strain and unnecessary tension. But it does not have to be that way. 

Once your 3rd eye chakra is balanced, you will transcend the right and wrongs of decision making and situations. You will start to see the reality for what it is. You will gain a deep understanding of the self.

Below is a break down of the 3rd eye chakra to get you started with healing and balancing your chakra.

What is Ajna?

Ajna, the Sanskrit word for the 3rd eye chakra means “perceiving” and “command.” It is the mother of all the chakras, as it supervises the rest of them. Ajna is the seat of perception and consciousness. What you see through your eyes, it perceives. That is why it is called the 3rd eye.

The element of this chakra is light. Light can illuminate even the darkest of places. Just like light, the 3rd chakra can do the same. It illuminates the present without the influence of past, future or any type of judgments.

What is real and how can you perceive the true reality? Is it not by having a clear perception? To gain clarity, practice meditation techniques to heal your 6th chakra which is discussed in more detail later.

These are a few characteristics which the 3rd eye chakra influences or is influenced by:

  • Intuition
  • Motivates inspiration and creativity
  • Access to mystical states, illumination
  • Connection to wisdom, insight
  • Your sense of the bigger picture in life.
  • You feel you’re stagnant or moving forward

The Symptoms of an Imbalanced 3rd Eye Chakra

Going back to your childhood, if you were raised in a closed-minded atmosphere and your perspective and insights were not valued, these could have led to a blockage of your 3rd eye chakra. 

The strongest reason that the Ajna chakra tends to get blocked is that you have fears and doubts about yourself. And to counter these fears you have created a facade of fearlessness. As a result, there is suppression and disruption of your feelings and instincts linked with your other chakras. 

Apart from these deep-rooted reasons, there are both physical and emotional symptoms for an imbalanced 3rd eye chakra.

The Physical Symptoms to pay attention to:
  • Eye discomfort
  • Sinus pain
  • Headaches (including migraines)
  • Back and leg pain
  • Your voice frequently cracks or sounds thin
  • Ear problems such as premature hearing loss and infections
  • Develop sinus, throat or respiratory infections
 The Emotional Symptoms to pay attention to:
  • Indecisiveness
  • Paranoia
  • Finding your work or life insignificant
  • Feeling pointless
  • Finding your work or life insignificant
  • Rarely feeling creative or inspired by anything
  • Habitually escaping into daydreaming to avoid reality

To add to this, there are two forms of imbalanced chakras, where too much energy flows in or too little. You have to find the ‘balance’ for activating your chakras.

People who tend to daydream a lot, are ungrounded and are confused suffer from an Under-Active 3rd eye chakra. The reason is that not enough energy is flowing in.

On the contrary, some people are narrow-minded, arrogant or cynical. In this case, too much energy is flowing in and the person has an Overactive 3rd eye chakra.

The Need for a Balanced 3rd Eye Chakra

It seems like its always one thing or another – Confusion or clarity. Confusion is something that occurs daily. Many times your minds get clouded, there is too much thinking happening. Your inner voice and outer voice converge, and clarity is gone. 

You need to take a step back and just observe your thoughts and actions from a distance. To judge a situation, you need to be able to first take yourselves out of the situation. 

The balanced 3rd eye gives you the stability to think clearly and without being swayed by your feelings. The 3rd eye perceives without any biases. It also gives you a choice of attention. What do you choose to pay attention to lies in your own hands? 

By activating the 3rd eye chakra, you can learn to gain control of your thoughts and think more clearly. It guides you to move from confusion to clarity. 

And if you think about it, where does all your distress arise from? Is it not your thoughts and the perception of reality?

8 Ways to Heal the 3rd Eye Chakra

When you have a balanced 3rd eye chakra, you become self-aware, calm and make better decisions in life. These decisions made are grounded in reality.

But these techniques take time and you have to be patient.

Below are some methods you could adopt to heal the chakra but do give a try to all, to settle on the ones which work best for you. 

1. Meditation Techniques

Meditation is bringing the mind to stillness and calmness and is very unique to all individuals. It is better if you sit in a comfortable position, wear comfortable clothes and most importantly find a place where you will not get disturbed.  

Now visualize a purple (reddish blue) ball at the center of the brow. Also, feel that this purple glow is growing and spreading through your whole body. Direct this energy to clear all blockages of energy in your body. It’s good that you practice for 3-5 minutes and get into a flow. With practice, you will get better at it.

Also, do these:

  • Go for a psychedelic shamanic journey (ayahuasca, psilocybin mushrooms and peyote) – only in the presence of a practiced shaman
  • Practice Self-reflection (on your thoughts and feelings)
  • Scream and laugh to release that blocked throat energy
  • Practice deep breathing into your stomach
2. Mantras and Chants

The seed mantra for the 3rd eye chakra is OM which is a single syllable word pronounced as “ommmmmmmmmm.” This sound matches the vibrations of the 3rd eye chakra and helps in activating the chakra. Also, chant along with the vibrations, this greatly helps. Feel the sound coming from your throat and not your mouth.

For practicing the chanting of the seed mantra, pronounce the mantra along with the chant in the video below. Synchronize your breath with the chanting and focus on the vibrations created by the mantra chanting.

3. Sleep Meditation Music 

In addition to meditating via 3rd Eye Chakra chanting, you can also heal the chakra by listening to sleep meditation music that we have prepared.

To effectively use the music, we recommend to play the music on speakers at a low volume (almost to a whisper) while sleeping. We also recommend not consuming any heavy meal before sleeping as it will disturb the sleep pattern. 

Focus on your breath and visualize an orange sphere three inches below the navel while sleeping. As you inhale the sphere expands and as you exhale it spreads this energy throughout your body and you slowly drift into sleep. The screen will automatically turn black in a few minutes.

4. Affirmations

The Affirmations work to realign the 3rd Eye Chakra. Repeating them multiple times a day or whenever you sense that the chakras are not balanced, can be very useful. These are some:

  • I am in touch with my inner voice
  • I follow my dreams
  • I am intuitive
  • I trust my inner guidance
  • I have ability and imagination to bring my ideas to reality
  • I am spiritually awake.

5. Asanas and Other Physical Techniques

Yoga is very important to balance the 3rd Eye chakra. Wear something comfortable and get started with yoga for finding clarity in life.

The above video specifically guides you through each yoga pose. Practice the yoga along with the video and follow through carefully to get the poses right. Add these 10 minutes of yoga every day in the morning. 

6. Gems, Jewelry and Color

Gems and jewelry

Stones such as Purple Fluorite, Black Obsidian, Amethyst and Shungite can help with making decisions and avoid distractions. 

Use these to balance your reason and emotions. You can keep them near the chakra while meditating or even better, wear them in the form of jewelry.

Color

The color for the 3rd eye chakra is indigo or purple. This color signifies a high level of intuition, an orderly mind, and clear-sightedness. Wearing purple-colored clothes can enhance the opening of the 3rd eye chakra, as the frequency after the brain processes this color matches that of the 3rd eye chakra. 

7.  Food and Diet

Some specific foods related to the 3rd eye chakra are:

  • Eating purple foods like purple cabbage, eggplant, blueberries, red grapes, and blackberries. 
  • Also consuming Omega 3 products like salmon, chia seeds, walnuts, and sardines.
  • Consume Dark Chocolate. 
8. Ajna Mudra

Mudras are a way to attune ourselves with specific vibrations in the universe. In order to balance your 3rd eye chakra, mudras are very beneficial. You can practice the mudra for 2 -3 minutes daily in the mornings and evenings.

Jnana Mudra:

Jnana Mudra for 3rd eye chakra

For this mudra, rest the back of your hands on the top of your knees. Now, place the tips of the thumbs and index fingers together, extending the other fingers. This mudra is also known as the gesture of knowledge.
